Intel Core i7 Extreme Workstations

Three new processors, the Core i7-5960X, i7-5830K and i7-5820K usher in the new era multi-threaded performance. The 5960X being the successor to the 4960X, has been upgraded to an 8-core design. The 5820K has received a core upgrade as well, now supporting a 6-core design.

The X99 is also the first chipset to support the new DDR4 memory. Offering Quad channel memory support, DDR4 offers faster clock speeds of 2133 MHz and higher and consumes only 1.2 V of power compared to 1.65/1.5V with DDR3.

Tests have shown up 79% increase in multi-thread over the previous quad-core processor. The X99 chipset coupled with the Haswell-E processors will support up to 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0. This gives us possible multi-GPU configurations beyond two cards with 2x16 and 1x8. Beyond the huge PCIe support, the chipset also offers up to 10 SATA 3.0 ports and an increased number of USB 2 and USB 3 ports.

All these new features make the X99 based Workstations the Ultimate Platform for Multi-thread Computing.
